Simon Mortimore

Simon Mortimore is the Principal and Owner of Mortimore and Co Chartered Certified Accountants. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Simon has over 19 years of experience in the Accountancy Profession having graduated from Exeter University in 1994 with a Degree in Accountancy Studies. His background is from a small practice where his knowledge of small owner managed businesses in various sectors has been obtained. Simon has worked in practice throughout the South West of England.

Simon also has extensive personal experience of the the intricacies of running a small business with his parents who were previously self employed for over 35 years. With experience in Public Houses, Restaurants, Cafes and Gift shops Simon offers a particular understanding of these sectors.

Having joined Elliott, Mortimore Accountants as a partner in 2005 Simon implemented a fully IT networked office utlising his extensive knowledge of IT systems and software. In September 2008 Simon assumed responsibility for the practice upon the retirement of Martin Elliott and Mortimore and Co Chartered Certified Accountants was formed. Simon has developed the practice into a position where it now fully utilises the latest in technology in such a way as to best look after the needs of the clients.

Simon prides himself on his ability to explain issues in terms that other non Accountants can understand thereby taking the concern away from clients. Whist he promotes technology he still understands the need to offer service to a variety of different clients and adapt the advice accordingly.

In his spare time he enjoys keeping up with his young son Oliver.

Julie Brooks – Practice Manager

Julie Brooks brings three decades of experience to her job, having left school with a real head for figures and an uncanny ability to solve puzzles. Both these talents lead to a first job in an accountant’s office. She then worked her way steadily up from filing and banking to her job today, specialising in the preparation of annual accounts and tax returns for a variety of businesses.

Appreciation from clients is the best part of the job, she says, along with the relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the company.

If she had her time over again, Julie might just have chosen criminology as a career choice. But spare time is always devoted to walking in the countryside and along the coastline. She’s also a keen badminton player.

Julie’s other achievements include jumping out of a plane and hiking on a glacier. Who says accountants aren’t adventurous!

Darren Jewell – Practice Manager

Darren joined Mortimore & Co in 2009 after a spell in customer care with a building society. He loves the constant variety and challenges that his job throws up and gets great satisfaction from using knowledge he gained from his studies or previous experience to solve problems big or small.

Darren’s childhood hopes of becoming a rock climber were dashed when he realised he wasn’t actually very good at climbing and that there weren’t many job opportunities for rock climbers. However early promise in maths at school indicated he was destined for a successful career in finance or accounting.

Before coming to work, Darren either goes for a run or visits the gym. In his spare time he enjoys walking the family dogs and spending time with his wife Melissa and their young son Rupert.

He says he couldn’t live without pizza and his gym membership, as one balances out the other. Ever the accountant!
